The Resident Evil 2 remake is a little less than two months away, and the marketing train is starting to pick up speed. While there are some people out there that can’t get enough previews and first-looks, I’m personally one of those that doesn’t want to know a single solitary thing about it. Most of the fun of a RE game for me is not knowing what’s around the corner.

For a remake, especially one that relied on jump scares and the unknown for tension, it’s hard enough to re-capture that feeling once everyone knows the classic scares, such as <20-year-old spoiler> the licker bursting through the two-way mirror, or the giant alligator in the sewers. Capcom has to find new ways to surprise us and keep us intrigued in a game that some of us know like the back of our hands.

But Capcom needs to make their money (like that isn’t gonna happen) so they have to market their game, and with that come previews and write-ups and videos that play automatically on websites and scroll with you so you can’t ignore them no matter what you do fuck you IGN.

I’ve been doing my best to ignore the media, and it’s been easy up to this point. But much like I did with RE7, in the week before launch I will probably have to ignore the major gaming sites altogether. Because no matter if you’re an RE fan or not, you can’t deny that the re-RElease of Resident Evil 2 will be a major gaming event all to itself. The game is a significant part of gaming history and culture, and you can bet all of us old shits are gonna be foaming at the mouth wanting to talk about it.

And I can’t get them to shut up, so I must avoid them. Perhaps there’s a cave nearby?
